RADIO
Broadcast Personality, Talk Radio Host
Ace started in radio at KMRN-AM (Cameron, Missouri) in 1988, and has since worked around the country
at stations including:
X106 (KDLX-FM/Maryville, Missouri)
KXCV-FM (Maryville, Missouri)
KJO-105 (KKJO-FM/St. Joseph, Missouri)
KXXR-FM (Kansas City) SAMPLE AVAILABLE
Kiss 107.3 (KISF-FM/Kansas City) SAMPLE AVAILABLE
CK-105 (WWCK-FM/Flint, Michigan) SAMPLE AVAILABLE
WIOG-FM (Saginaw, Michigan)
Win 98.5 (WNWN-FM/Battle Creek, Michigan)
96.5: The Fat One (WFAT-FM/Kalamazoo, Michigan) SAMPLE AVAILABLE
The majority of Ace's experience has been in CHR ("Top 40") radio doing nights,
but he also has experience in Hot AC, country, jazz, news/talk and NAC in a variety of
airshifts, and did mornings at college CHR outlet X-106 (Maryville). He was also Assistant
Production Director and, later, Program Director at Marconi-winning X-106.
"Radio has always been my main interest, and my true passion. Just as there are two sides of
my personalitythe fun side and the serious sidethere are two sides to my radio
preferences. My ultimate goal is to work at a company with a news/talk AM, where I could do a
serious talk show during the day, and a CHR FM, where I could do a slammin' night show. I'd also
like to get back into the Program Director's chair at a hot-sounding CHR. I've tried to get away
from radio, and I just can't do it; it's a terminal disease I have."

of Planet Ace.

JOURNALISM
Writing, Editing, Columns
When Ace started working at KMRN back in 1988, he found himself doing a number of things, including news.
In fact, he found he rather enjoyed the journalism side of his job. It's a pleasure he has kept with him
ever since.
While attending college, Ace joined the staff of National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate KXCV-FM, where he
picked up duties as the local anchor of All Things Considered (an afternoon news magazine) and occasional
reporter. During elections, he covered the political beat and did some political analysis features.
Following his move to Michigan, Ace became the copy editor of On Stage Magazine, a regional
entertainment magazine covering music, theatre, restaurants and other forms of live entertainment.
In addition to his editing duties, Ace was also the head writer and columnist
(SAMPLES AVAILABLE). Unfortunately, On Stage went bankrupt and
stopped publishing (for reasons that had nothing to do with Ace's tenure as the copy editor).
Most recently, Ace has been a contributor to his company's fax newsletter (Wild Fax)
and to Pulp Webzine, where he is the web page editor. He also
continues to publish reviews at his News & Reviews site.

COMEDY
Stand-up Comedian, Comedy Producer
The whole comedy thing came as an outgrowth of two other interests: radio and theatre. In radio,
there was great creative freedom, but no immediate feedback from the audience. In theatre, there
was plenty of feedback from the audience, but as an actor, Ace never got the creative freedom
to express his own creative impulses.
"In acting," he said, "You have the freedom to interpret the character, but you are still playing
the role of the character, a person created by someone else, and your job is to make that character
behave as the director expects him to behave. This is a special kind of challenge, and I love
acting, but sometimes I want to be the writer, the director and the actor, and have the
ability to change the direction of my performance if necessary. The easiest, most complete way to
do that is through stand-up comedy."
Ace started doing stand-up at Stanford's Comedy House in Kansas City on open mic nights. He went
on to become a professional comic, performing at all three Kansas City area Stanfords', as well as
other clubs throughout the Midwest, including The Funny Bone in Omaha and Mr. G's in Flint, as well
as colleges and conventions.
Ace also used his comedic talent as a comedy writer, producing radio programs ("Ace's Basement
Attic") and a comedy album with partner Alan Thomas which was, unfortunately, never completed.
"We had some good stuff," Ace said, "like 'Morning Drive from Hell,' where a morning show jock
has to deal with some of the worst contest callers in history. We just really never got
the time to finish the entire set."
Because of his heavy schedule, Ace is not currently performing comedy on a regular basis. He
is, however, available for special engagements. Booking Information is available
for both comedy and speaking engagements.

FICTION
Science Fiction, Comedy
Ace is a published short story author, and several of his stories have appeared in Pulp Webzine
(to which he is a contributing editor). Ace was first published while in junior high when he combined
his love of fiction writing with his love of computers for an interactive short story entitled
"Necromancer's Revenge."
Ace continues to write short fiction while he works on two novels: Forever and a Day (a comedy) and Matrix (a science fiction novel).
Some of his short fiction (including teh stories "Skeleton's Closet" and "Absence of . . .") is available
for your reading pleasure on Planet Ace.

MUSIC
Vocals, Composition, Keyboards
Ace has had very little formal musical training. Most of that training is limited to the piano lessons
he took as a child and the short time he spent receiving instruction in classical guitar. He was also
a trumpet player in high school, but, as he puts it, Ace was "quite possibly the worst trumpet
player in the history of the planet."
Fortunately, Ace did have one instrument that he knew how to use well: his voice. It was, after all,
the piece of equipment he used mosst in his profession. "I think that the key to singing is learning
to manipulate your voice, which is something I learned by doing impressions and through acting," Ace
said. "Singing takes that manipulation to a different level of that, but I think it's still the same concept.
And I think that pretty much anyone without a physically limiting condition can sing, and probably sing well.
The secret is to just find a key that fits that particular voice."
After several ill-fated attempts to start his own band, Ace eventually became the lead singer of the
short-lived band "Naked Women." Upon moving to Flint to take over nights at CK-105 FM, Ace was no longer
able to perform with a band because of the contraints of working at night. Frustrated, he tagged along
with a friend who commonly haunted the numerous karaoke bars in the city. Contrary to Ace's preconceptions,
most of the people who sang performed very well, and, after some prodding, they convinced Ace to
get up on the stage himself. Ace became a karaoke junkie that night, and as a result met people who
later became his close friends. He also won several contests, and even developed a small following
in the Flint karaoke scene before moving to Kalamazoo. While working as a columnist for On Stage
magazine, Ace even wrote column about the karaoke scene.
Ace continues to sing karaoke when the opportunity presents itself,
although, he says, it's hard to do in Kalamazoo. "There's just not the same scene here as there is in
Flint, where you can go singing at two or three places every single night of the week," he said. "I
really miss it. Since I'm not currently attached to a band, this is really the only way I have to
perform, and to be honest, I think there's even something better about it. When you're singing with
a band, you can't really experiment with different songs that might not work. In karaoke, you're doing
it simply for fun and for the thrill of performing, and you can take risks. There's something nice about that."
Despite his lack of formal training, Ace has managed to do some work as
a composer, and is interested in singing with a band if he can fit it into his schedule. It is his
eventual goal to record an album, and to eventually form a band of his own.

PUBLISHING
Design, Layout, Copywriting, Electronic Publishing
Most of Ace's strengths are performance-based: radio, music, comedy, writing, etc. Perhaps that's why his background in
publishing seems so out of place. But, it's still a creative skill, and as as himself says, he is a person driven by
his urge to create.
Ace learned the basics of Aldus Pagemaker 4.2 while in college, and then picked up skills in the next version of the program
(Pagemaker 5.0) while working for a print shop in Missouri. Since then, Ace has become extremely fluent in each successive
version of Pagemaker (including the latest edition, Adobe Pagemaker 6.5), and mastered other desktop publishing and design
software, including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, QuarkXPress, Macromedia Freehand and CorelDraw.
He has also enthusiastically embraced electronic publishing, learning HTML and Java (always an ongoing process). Although he
has learned to use various web publishing packages (including Microsoft FrontPage and Adobe PageMill), Ace says he actually
does most of his coding by hand. "Believe it or not, it's actually easier most of the time," he said. "I can just launch a simple
text editor and make the changes in ten seconds instead of having to launch a huge application, wait for it to sort through stuff
and then go through a cumbersome publishing process when it's all done."
Ace has taken his interest in publishing and created his own company, Wild Card Media.
This company provides services including web page design, desktop publishing (advertising, newsletters, menus, business stationery, etc.) and even audio production
and voice-over services. The company is geared to individuals and small businesses. For more information, visit the Wild Card Media website.
